Bedford Get Together, Inc.

In early 2017, a small group of Bedford residents began to gather weekly to share concerns about the polarized climate in our country. In a short time, and as the group grew, we came to the realization that there is so much more that unites the Bedford community than divides it -- the idea for Bedford Get Together was born.

One of our projects this year is to raise money to help restore and maintain the Christmas decorations at the former Elks Home at Spring Oak, among .  Due to the retirement of a longtime employee and general wear and tear to the decorations over the years, there is significant work to be done to ensure a display that reflects our town's reputation as the Christmas capital of Virginia. This is a community project and we are only one of the many individuals and organizations who have indicated an interest in helping. We are currently awaiting more information from Spring Oak regarding their confirmation of the overall project, but in the meantime we understand there will be fundraising required and that is where you come in. If we can come into the project with a reasonable level of funding, we believe this will help us get started early on purchasing materials (wood, paint, etc). Bedford Get Together also intends to collect stories from community members about their experiences with the Elks Home holiday displays. We will publish these in the newspaper and on social media throughout the year to remind people of the project and seek volunteers.  Our other projects include Our Bedford Stories, the Centertown mural story board, and the annual community service awards.
