Bedford Christian Ministries Association

Bedford Christian Ministries was founded by several downtown Bedford churches and the Society of St. Andrew in 1984 to provide a centralized outreach ministry for those churches.  Today, BCM is supported by 26 Bedford County churches and provides services to all residents of the County.  Primary services offered are food assistance, clothing and household items, electric and water bill assistance, past due and first-month rent assistance, heating oil and propane assistance, and vision assistance.  

"For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." (Matthew 18:20)   The over-400 volunteers who have served at BCM over the past 40 years have been motivated to Christian service by this guiding spiritual belief.  The presence of the Holy Spirit supports and guides us in this ministry.

During the Pandemic, two-thirds of our volunteers continued to serve under challenging conditions.  We were proud to partner with the Bedford County Sheriff's Office, Bedford Get Together and Blue Ridge Community Church to deliver food to seniors and other homebound individuals.  We also distributed CARES Act funds to eligible households during that period.

  In 2024, 10% of our financial assistance and 13.5% of our food assistance was provided to residents of Moneta, Hardy, Goodview, Huddleston and Lynch Station.  It might be easy to assume from our location that we only serve the Town of Bedford and its surrounding communities.  These statistics demonstrate our availability and commitment to serving all of Bedford County.
